The Artist Who Sees the Beauty in Everyone | Meet Hara Allison

We had the pleasure of connecting with Hara Allison, and we're excited to share our conversation with her below.

What inspired you to start your journey or business?

I have been a graphic designer since I graduated from college in 1991, but my passion has always been photography. I had a darkroom in my bedroom in high school! However, life took over—I got married, moved from Florida to Idaho, and let my dream slip away.

Right before my 52nd birthday, I attended a conference in Toronto, and the talks there made me realize I had to live my dream. So, I picked up my camera again and learned everything I could from YouTube and AdoramaTV. Now, at 57, I’m more well-known for my photography than anything else—and I’m about to open a studio in Spokane!

What challenges have you faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?

All of them! Ha ha. Honestly, I just made it to the next day. I always believed in myself, even when things were hard. That belief kept me moving forward.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love making art. I love showing people that they are art. Everyone is amazing and beautiful in their own way, and I get to capture that.

How does your work or passion contribute to the Pacific Northwest community?

I feel like I’m a safe space for many. I contribute by giving my time and talent to others, whether that’s through my photography, my creativity, or simply being present for people who need support.

What inspires or motivates you every day?

I’m going to die someday—maybe sooner rather than later. That realization keeps me focused on living fully. If not now, when? If not me, who?

What advice would you give to someone looking to follow a similar path?

See my previous answer. Go for it!

What are your goals for the next 1-3 years?

I’m working on making Dream Studio the go-to studio and event space in Spokane.

What’s something people might not know about you?

I’m actually shy!

What’s your favorite way to relax or recharge in the Pacific Northwest?

I love taking walks. Our forests and lakes are beautiful, and they bring me so much peace.

What’s a hidden gem in the Pacific Northwest that everyone should know about?

There’s a hiking trail called Caribou Ridge—it’s absolutely amazing!
